History repeats itself. However, this time, it's the other way around. Before, it was the Jews who wandered throughout the world, who were discriminated against, massacred, and forced to live in ghettos for centuries. They were the victims of genocide, as in World War II. For a long time, humanity took pains to try to find a solution to that problem, so that the Jews could have a state, a homeland. But, in solving that problem, a terrible injustice was done: the Palestinians were deprived of the land where they had lived for thousands of years. They were banished from their homeland. Now, we are faced with the same problem, but only the other way around - a Palestinian Diaspora. The Palestinians are very active, very intelligent, and very tenacious. No other Arab people has as many teachers, doctors, engineers, or technicians - in proportion to its total population - as the Palestinians. The banishment, the dispersion, has forced them to strive for improvement and knowledge. Before, it was the Jews who were the victims of pogroms and massacres. Today, it is the Palestinians who are the victims of pogroms and massacres. Can you think of anything more horrifying than the massacres at Sabra and Shatila, in which thousands of people - including women, children, and the elderly - were brutally murdered? When anyone talks about the Middle East, there's one objective element that cannot be denied: the Palestinians have been deprived of their homeland. They have been scattered throughout the world, deprived of their national rights. Some live in ghettoes inside Palestine, subjected to persecution, repression, and all sorts of abuse and injustice. These are real, objective problems. As long as the question of the creation of an independent Palestinian state isn't solved, there will be no solution for the problem.
